The Multimedia Coding Group (MCG) was formed in 1994 as a section of the Department's Image and Signal Processing Research Laboratory. Its principal activities focus on:
- low bit-rate video coding for interactive multimedia and video-conferencing systems.
- motion estimation and shape representation for object-based video coding.
- visual feature extraction and multimedia content description schemes.
The group is collaborating with a number of universities and industrial/government organisations. Research has been funded by SERC, EPSRC, Alvey, British Council, and the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong.
