    Computer Science Education

In addition to the "technology" focus of the research group, we are also interested in the more generic aspects of education in the Computer Science context. Our work involves a variety of educational issues such as understanding student attitudes to e-assessment, group projects and plagairism. We seek to identify the best practice when applying educational theory and technology in learning environments.

As a part of this work we are interested in the development of learning objects and materials. We are interested in the best methodologies for developing learning materials and how to apply best educational practice. Our research is also concerned with the deployment and evaluation of learning materials in order to guide our development of learning technologies.

Mathematical and Applied Logic (MALog) Project

The MALog project is addressing the growing need for new learning materials and teaching resources for mathematical logic. Mathematical and applied logic knowledge and skills are used in a wide variety of computer science subjects and the MALog project is developing learning resources to support students in these areas. The MALog project is funded from the EU Lifelong Learning Programme and involves institutions throughout the EU: the University of Warwick, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, and the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest in Romania.

The main aim of the project is to produce sixty pedagogically high quality learning material units to help students develop their knowledge and skills in mathematical logic. The learning material will be targeted at the needs of both the educational and industrial learning environments. This learning material will include learning goals, detailed theory, visualisations and simulations, example problems and practice assignments. Once completed, the learning materials will be tested in real learning situations in several educational institutions across the EU.

The learning material being developed will be freely available on-line and will enable school children, technology students and technology professionals to further develop their mathematical skills. The material produced will be available in English, Finnish, Romanian, French and German.

Further information can be found on www.malog.org
