Artur Czumaj (University of Warwick): short statement of a candidate for the EATCS council
I'm a candidate for the EATCS council.
I have been an EATCS member for over a decade and an EATCS Fellow since 2015.
My primary objective in the EATCS Council would be to contribute to the strengthening of European research in TCS and to ensure that Europe will provide excellent opportunities for the research development of future international stars of TCS and excellent research environment for the existing international leaders.
My specific program consists of four central items.
- I will support community efforts to provide in Europe excellent training opportunities (e.g., summer schools, international-multi-institutional centers) for our students and early career researchers.
- I will support community efforts to provide in Europe excellent research environment for the existing international leaders (also to ensure that world best researchers in TCS will be attracted to move to Europe and to stay here).
- I will support community efforts to have strong, world-leading international conferences taking place in Europe (ICALP, ESA, HALG, but also other conferences, including STOC, FOCS, SODA), to make sure that European students, early career researchers, and faculty will have broad access to the advances of the field.
- I believe that international collaboration should play a central role in the strengthening of European research and I will press/support the EATCS efforts to lobby EC to fund more European collaborative research initiatives (especially, large collaborative projects) in TCS.
